After interviewing five new people I learned that there are some people that believe that while the road is a dangerous place, it is not solely the car drivers that make the road a dangerous place, but in fact scooter drivers deserve to take some of the blame. It was interesting to hear some of the points that they brought up like how scooter drivers sometimes drive where they shouldn't be like in between lanes to get between cars and that creates an unsafe environment not only for the scooter driver but also the car drivers too. The reactions car drivers have when they try to avoid something in the road can sometimes lead to car accidents.
Who: Everyone wants our roadways to be a safe place. But there are intact some people that believe scooter drivers make the road a more dangerous place. I asked them why the believe that and the general consensus between the people that I interviewed was that actions taken by drivers to avoid hitting scooters can sometimes lead to accidents between two cars.
What: The need for road safety for scooters is mainly reliant on the everyone that drives on the road, not only the car drivers. Scooter drivers need to be cautious of car drivers and respect the rule of the road just like every other car driver out there. The need for scooter safety differs from safety on the road when you start taking into account the safety precautions for scooter drivers. Scooter drivers need to wear helmets just like bicycle riders yet they have to adhere to safety precautions and driving restrictions just like automobiles. Some car drivers feel the need to teach scooter drivers that they need to adhere to the same laws that they do when it comes to utilizing the roads.
Why: Both scooter drivers and car drivers alike both need the roads to be a safe place and while there are people on both sides of the argument of road and scooter safety and where they place the responsibility everyone that utilized the road needs to be careful of everything around them and must try to drive as safely as possible.

Hey Ethan, I totally see the opportunity in this! You are right that the problem can go both ways, so it created nice boundaries for your opportunity. There are many ways you could take this and it looks like you are on the right track to develop this idea!

ReplyDeleteI think that you did a really great job of defining who would be inside your boundaries and who is outside of your boundaries. I do understand the desire for some to have scooter riders take responsibility for the dangerous conditions of the roads. They some scooter drivers don't follow the rules of the road or wear helmets, as you said. Thus, having these new lanes may mean having the scooter drivers pledge to adhere o the rules.

I think you did a really good analysis through this assignment and that you identified who is inside and outside of the boundaries and what this means very well. I personally really appreciate the opportunity you are talking about. I also feel that it has a lot of potential to really be successful.
